BMW N54 twin downpipes: why the legendary tuner engine takes two

The N54 is the engine that launched a thousand builds. Twin-turbo, hugely tunable, and hungry for airflow — which is exactly why the downpipes matter.

Two turbos, two downpipes

Unlike the later single-turbo N55, the N54 breathes through two turbochargers, so it takes a matched set of two downpipes. Freeing both at once is one of the biggest single steps you can take on this engine.

Catted vs catless

The catted option is left-hand-drive only; catless fits all and is intended for off-road / competition use. Either way, plan on a supporting tune to make the most of the extra flow and keep fuel trims happy.
